Not wishing to be picayunish, but, technically, "black," is not a color, but rather, a shade. At least, that is what I was told in my junior high art class.
Having pointed that out for posterity, I would affirm that Jason does indeed lean toward black as a form of decoration in apparel and notebook color.
I think that is why he prefers burned food, not for the taste, but rather, its shading
